New Businesses in Texas: Family Fun Businesses
In 2011 and 2012, four different family entertainment centers opened in Texas. In January 2011, Sarah Morris opened up At This Side Up! Family Center in North Texas, where she offers families and parents seminars activities to grow stronger as a family. The mission of the center to create thriving families through parent seminars and parent and child interactions. The center provides safe, cost-effective fun at its 8,500 sq. ft fun center through parent/child activities, family movie nights, and a snack bar with choices for everyone. During the week, parents may attend parenting seminars, marriage talks or book club meetings to learn from both the speaker and other local parents.
In March 2011, the new LEGOLAND Discovery Center opened at the Grapevine Mills Mall in Dallas/Fort Worth area. The indoor center offers some similar attractions as a LEGOLAND theme park. The Texas LEGOLAND Discovery Center includes Kingdom Quest, an interactive laser ride, where guests join Good King's army and battle against mean trolls and LEGO Studios, where families can view movies like Bob the Builder in 4-D. Some features in this center differ from LEGOLAND Florida, such as MINILAND at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center features a view Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, built out of 1.5 million LEGOS, or inside Merlin's magical potion room at DUPLO VILLAGE, kids can ride Merlin's Apprentice, a magical elephant, while they help Merlin with magic.
In August 2011, TX 3rd Coast MMA, a mixed martial arts center, opened in the Southwest Houston area. The father and son team, Joe and Jason Soliz, teach a variety of classes including: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, and wrestling. The instructors also teach mixed martial arts to children to help them build self-confidence and develop physical and mental skills. The center offers a Junior MMA course, where children will learn moves from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Judo or Junior BJJ, where will learn self-defense techniques like throws, guard passes, and attack poses.
In May 2012, the new Aquatica Waterpark at SeaWorld will open. Aquatica includes thrilling water rides, including a raft ride, where guests go underwater through a coral reef and view tropical fish and stingrays. The water park also features three terraced pools and a wave pool for families to ride down fast, twisty waterslides or play in interactive funhouses with water nozzles and spray buckets. For those wishing to sunbathe, Aquatica features more than 42,000 square feet of sandy beach area.
